Walnut Creek, California (July 27, 2017)--Valent U.S.A. LLC today announced Chateau® Herbicide SW has been registered by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for use on citrus and caneberries. The supplemental label is a new key use for California growers of bearing citrus fruit.

A long-lasting preemergence herbicide, Chateau offers growers residual protection against more than 90 annual weeds, including tough California winter annuals such as shepherd’s purse, chickweeds, fleabane, groundsel, mallow and marestail. Chateau has been used commercially since 2005 in California with excellent reliability, proven residual activity and dependable weed control in various weather conditions. John Pawlak, product development manager at Valent, said this supplemental label will bring California citrus and caneberry growers much needed options for reliable, long-lasting preemergence weed-control.

"Chateau is a valuable new tool for California citrus and caneberry growers because it stays where the weeds germinate to provide consistent and long-term control," Pawlak said. "Chateau won’t leach, volatilize or co-distillate upward to help ensure long-lasting performance."

Plus, Chateau is farm friendly and weather ready. Unlike other preemergence herbicides, Chateau does not photodegrade in sunlight after application. That means Chateau remains active under various weather conditions until a quarter-inch of rainfall or irrigation releases its activity.

Chateau can be applied on more than 40 crops in California, including bearing and non-bearing citrus, caneberries, tree nuts, tree fruit, grapes, alfalfa, cotton, blueberries and strawberries.

The preferred application timing for Chateau is in the fall to maximize the potential for rainfall to activate and set the herbicide, before the weeds emerge and compete with the crop for nutrients. If weeds have emerged at the time of application, Chateau should be applied with a labeled burn down partner.
