Dodds begins by reviewing the total acres of row crops planted in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee (just over 19 million). He also reviews fluctuations in acres of cotton planted in recent years and trends in yields. In 2019, issues affecting cotton yields were delayed planting, delayed harvest, wilted cotton, CLRDV, and fertility. Dodds discusses applications of several nutrients (nitrogen, potassium, and limestone) in terms of their cost and efficacy. He concludes the presentation by advising growers to recognize when to accept losses and not spend more on futile efforts at management.
